What Is the P.I.N.K. Method?

The P.I.N.K. Method was one of the most popular diets of 2012 and is continuing to be very commonly used this year. Part of the appeal of the diet is its hip and girly style. It is a low calorie diet plan that involves a critical exercise element that promises its users a complete makeover from head to toe. According to the Pasquella, “It can help you lose weight, improve your health, look your best, and change the way you think about yourself.”

The name “P.I.N.K” stands for Power, Intensity, Nutrition, and “Kardio”. The P.I.N.K. Method was created specifically for women and exploded in popularity after being featured on both The Doctors and Dr. Phil television shows.

The Pros and Cons of the P.I.N.K. Method

A spokesperson named Heather Mangieri, MS, RD, from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (previously known as the American Dietetic Association) stated that the P.I.N.K. Method provides its users with “great advice” which focus on the wellness of the entire body, as opposed to trying to target one specific zone. She also applauded the recommendations made by the diet for choosing foods that are nutrient dense and to remain highly physically active.

At the same time, it should also be noted that Mangieri also said that the claims made by the P.I.N.K. Method are exaggerated. She stated that even under the ideal circumstances, the claims that are being made about this program are not based on scientific or medical research and are “overstated”. She pointed out that foods, themselves, do not burn fat and not all of the users of this technique will experience the rejuvenation of hair, nails, and skin, not everybody will experience increases in energy levels, and not every person will experience a libido boost.

The Foods That Are Associated with the P.I.N.K. Method

From the eating side of the P.I.N.K. Method, there is a focus on lean proteins and whole, unprocessed plant foods. The entire program is divided into four main phases. The fruits, veggies, and carbs that are recommended are all high in fiber in order to encourage slower digestion and therefore a longer feeling of fullness. Organic foods are recommended by this program.

Alcohol, refined sugars, and processed foods are not permitted on this plan. The only artificial sweetener permitted is stevia. Caffeine is allowed, but only in small amounts. After the first nine weeks of the plan, one to two servings of alcohol are permitted.

The Exercises That Are Associated with the P.I.N.K. Method

There are three fitness DVDs that come with the P.I.N.K. Method. These are each intense workouts to be followed in order, each of which is used for three weeks at a time. Also, the focus is on full-body workouts that will not only build muscle, but will also help you improve your cardiovascular health and endurance.

As we mentioned in the introduction, this is a three-phase program. In total, you will be putting in nine weeks of effort, and those nine weeks are divided into three phases consisting of three weeks each. Every phase will have a trainer and workout routine to follow. To break it down:

  • The first phase will include 20-minute workouts that set the foundation for what lies ahead.
  • The second phase will increase the duration of your workouts by 10 minutes, while also boosting the intensity of the exercises.
  • The third and final phase will use 40-minute routines and power intervals to build strength and stamina.

Should You Try the P.I.N.K. Method? 

Although there isn’t research to back up the claims that are made by the P.I.N.K. Method, it might be worth giving it a try if you tend to have a hard time sticking with eating right and exercising.

The exercises are definitely going to work on building your strength and endurance through a variety of routines, and the low-calorie eating plan that emphasizes healthy foods might help you get on the best track if you struggle with eating right.

Just be aware that it might be a little hard to follow this program at first, but it will be worth staying with it and seeing it through to the end. You might realize that you want to keep eating well and exercising long after you have finished the P.I.N.K. Method’s three phases.
